snow day again

pretty phenomenal how crippling the snow's been for dc. didn't think i'd ever get so many emergency closure text notifications from school. the gtown provost even sent out an email titled "snow, closing, coping," apologizing for the mess:
With a little more time on our hands, can we be inventive and imaginative and find ways to keep the semester moving forward, even on a thick layer of ice and snow? I look forward to hearing about the experiments and victories that ensue.
pretty dramatic, albeit well-intentioned. it even cited our library as a "beacon of our commitment to learning and inquiry" since it's still open.

anyway i'm sick and probably shouldn't have gone outside today, but it takes a lot to keep me cooped up. on the way back from kickboxing, something neat caught my eye:

if a helmet's good enough for a snowman, it's good enough for you too. that's right, i'm talking to you hipsters and stanford undergrads.

you can't tell from the photo, but the snow started again around sunset while i was walking back.

some progress was made in clearing the circle. won't be like this for much longer.

snowfall getting heavier.

shooting these pictures made me think about bringing my SLR out of retirement. i've done it for so long through high school and college though, i'm not sure if the inconvenience of carrying it around and hiding behind the lens is necessarily worth it.

snow becomes more visible in pictures when you have a light source.

federal agencies and schools will remain closed tomorrow. perfect time to catch up right? hah i'll probably still end up exploring a bit. this is why i'm meant for fieldwork and being on the ground.
