blizzard aftermath

commutes have been awful all week long. everything's only starting to settle back to the usual routine. the university decided to resume classes on president's day to compensate for the lost week, so here's where i spent a bit of my holiday:

well, not in this room specifically, since i was only hanging out here before my class next door began, and the one before it was still in session. i actually like studying in empty classrooms, though i wish the desks were bigger.

i know a bunch of b-school kids who had to make up their classes through the entire weekend. they have a midterm this saturday night too.

tuesday's when i finally started commuting by bike again. haven't ridden since the snow hit us! roads are extra slippery when wet and icy. not good when my brakes are almost completely worn out...

i've been hating on cars all week long. the drivers in georgetown are never fun to deal with, but it's even more dangerous now since the leftover snow/ice gives bike commuters less room to defend themselves against cars that don't know how to share the road.

these giant piles are everywhere. it's warming up a bit (high 30s!) so maybe they'll melt away soon. i'm about 75% sure that they'll stick around until spring comes along, whenever that happens.

somehow, they never clear out the spots where bikes are usually parked. this has been everywhere through the city and not just campus.

now i know which bikes are the parking hogs.

a few times, i ended up bringing my bike with me into my classrooms since i couldn't find parking. this has happened a few times last semester too, when there wasn't snow.

some sidewalks are cleared out better than others.

went into work late last night to finish up a project. there's a garage where i could've parked my bike, but i was the only one in the office anyway.

  1. Oh man, did you happen to see anybody climbing those ice streaks like this? http://joker.icm.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/image/iceClimbing.jpg Poor bikes.

  2. that's a snazzy commuter:) cool that you've stuck with the bike even in the snow. i've really wanted to bike to school instead of taking the bus, but a huge chunk of my route to school involves a three lane road with no shoulder room or sidewalk, and cars treat it like a highway. wish east LA were more like Pasadena. or Gtown!
