slush day

hiked through the snow to get to school today since i had a study group at the library. now when i'm in my 80s i can legitimately yell at lazy kids about my studious trials through the great snowpocalypse of 2010.

and that's what the circle usually looks like during normal hours. well, usually it doesn't have this much snow either. note the slushiness.

lots of people were out shoveling their sidewalks or digging out their cars. also walked past plenty of folks romping around with their dogs, kids and sleds.

gotta have boots if you're gonna trudge through slush. the georgetown residential neighborhood was poorly plowed and especially hard to walk through.

healy hall, georgetown's signature historic building. it's the first thing people see when they walk through the official main gates.

off to the library. not a building that's terribly easy on the eyes. it reminds me a lot of the BU library, where i spent half my undergraduate career. i still miss our wonderful libraries back at berkeley.

i was productive enough on campus but headed back before sundown to run errands. here's the worst part of P street. cobblestones and old unused trolley tracks make for some horrible riding.

mtn bike daydreaming on the way back.

they city's been working hard to clear out the streets, but lots of parts are still hard to walk around. most sidewalks are still unwalkable so it's better to share the road with the cars. something i do anyway through all the seasons.

checked out the circle up close before heading home.

however much i've complained about the inconvenience of snow, it's still incredibly gorgeous. like a lot of things in life, right? painful but gorgeous. besides, how else can i appreciate spring, sun and atypical california wonder if i don't live out all the seasons.

even then, everything outside the city's in much worse shape. apparently people in MD and VA are snowed in without power or heat. i guess that's why gtown and all federal agencies are closed for a snow day tomorrow.

today's roundtrip route: ~4.7 miles
