another noon ride

not long after coming back from this morning's ride, jake told me he was hitting up the capital crescent trail at noon. i haven't seen the guy in a while and was more than willing to rack up more mileage, so of course i went along.

the trail starts at georgetown and goes ~7 miles north to bethesda, MD. going up has a slight uphill incline, and it's all (very slightly) downhill on the way back. i've taken the metro over to bethesda to run the trail back down to dc. on nice days, it tends to be crowded with pedestrians. luckily it wasn't so bad today, prolly cuz it's a weekday.

something cute that happened on the way back: we rode past a family that had three little kids, and one little boy yelled out "vrrrroooom!" while the little girl yelled out "wowww they're fast!" meanwhile, the parents freaked out about making sure they were out of our way.

getting to the trail involves going through horrible gtown traffic and taking the road directly underneath the whitehurst freeway. it's a fun and flat ride. i tried to maintain a 20 mph average, but i still have trouble with keeping my momentum up humps (like bridges, etc).

compared to the last time i did this with jake, i feel like i was able to speed through it much more easily. though at that point, i was still on my much heavier commuter.

ride total: 19.8 mi
conditions: flat, overcast but much warmer

today's cumulative total: 45.6 mi

as soon as we got back, the clouds opened up and made it sunny again. argh! i'm studying outside before it starts raining tomorrow
